Wow. That totally blew me away, what Pastor Lia shared today at the worship team meeting. Totally changed my mindset but many things.

It’s not just how good you are, how expressive you are. It’s about what God has in store. What God wants to use you for. What God intends.

Good that you can impress, great that you can emote.
Best if you can connect spiritually.

My name is Joram Tan, NRIC No.*withheld* , HP No. *withheld*

I have encountered absolutely abhorrent and disgusting service over the course of these two days.

I went for day surgery to remove a chronic inflammation in my left armpit, on 28 June and was given one week MC, ending on 4 July, despite being told by my doctor, Dr *Name Withheld*, that I would get at least 3 weeks. And was told to call in if I needed to extend my MC.

As my wound was, and still is, discharging blood, water, pus and a really bad smell, I went to a polyclinic on 3 July to extend the MC till Tuesday, 6 July, and was told by the polyclinic doctor to call CGH to help extend the MC further if need be.

So I called CGH on 5 July, Monday, to ask if I could get an extension of MC. The person from the day surgery clinic I spoke to told me that I would have to see the doctor to get the extension and that the earliest date that she could give me was 15 July, Thursday. I told her it was too long and that it would defeat the purpose of calling in to ask for an extension. She then curtly told me to go see a GP.

Hoping that I could get something better, I called again on 6 July, and this time was passed on to the Medical Records Office where they told me that the proper procedure was to email them. And even then, the request would take 3-4 weeks to process and approve, after which, I responded that it again, would defeat the purpose of me calling in again. The MRO then told me to try calling the Appointment Centre to try and get an urgent appointment on 6 July itself. What I got from the Appointment Centre was 8 July, Thursday, and that I could not get any other day because my team of doctors only worked on Thursday, and a curt reply telling me to go see a GP or the A&E if it wasn’t early enough.

I then called in again trying to push for an appointment on 6 July. I then got transferred to Corporate Affairs. There, I spoke to a certain Esther, where she listened to me and told me she would try calling the day surgery clinic, after which, she would call me back. I waited for four and a half hours but got no call back, so I decided to call in again, where I was told Esther was still trying to get an appointment for me and that she would call me back.

10 minutes later, I got a call from Mary of Corporate Affairs, telling me that they could not get an appointment for me. I then again explained my situation to her, about my wound and about my employer’s stand on medical problems. She then said she would try again, but to no avail.

So Mary suggested to me that I should go down to the polyclinic to get an MC to cover me till 8 July, saying that the polyclinics closed at 5.30pm. I rushed down only to find out that the polyclinics closed at 4.30pm instead. Incensed, I called her to tell her the situation. She said she would call the day surgery clinic one more time, but warned me that I would have to wait till all patients were attended to before I would be seen.

Mary called me back a short time later to tell me that all the day surgery doctors had all gone home for the day.

My employer does not accept private GP medical certificates, and going to A&E for a medical certificate to cover me till I could see the doctor on 8 July is costly and improbable.

I am highly disappointed and incensed at the fact that I have been put an a wild goose chase the past two days, where I ended up where I started, having to go back to work with a bloody, wet and smelly wound. I am also angry about the fact that I was treated with such disrespect by people from the clinic and MRO.

I feel the process for the above must be looked at again carefully.
What is the correct procedure to extend MC, to call in or email in?
Is the processing waiting time of 3-4 weeks too long to be one for extending an MC?
Are there other ways patients can get into the clinics, on an emergency basis?
Is not allowing patients to see another team of doctors for these kind of situations too inflexible?

Again, I am highly disappointed at how this situation has been handled and hope that this problem can be rectified for future patients that could end up in my position.
